Britney Spears Inspires Another 'Glee'-Cap Musical

Heather Morris' moves and John Stamos' grin have us breaking into song.

From the Heather Morris-starring scene-for-scene video re-creations to the sight of Lea Michele as a sexy schoolgirl to the debut of John Stamos, this week's Britney Spears-themed episode of "Glee" has everyone talking. But it has us singing. Without further ado, here are the lyrics to this week's "Glee"-cap!

Britney
You took over this week's "Glee."
Oh, baby you can hit me
One or two more times.

But when you act,
It's all sorts of crazy wack,
It's so good to have you back,
Even though you look 39.

A full hour of hits that are yours,
But then Lea performed Paramore.
[Jim speaks: What the f--- was that about?]
Oh, Britney, take these kids on tour.

[Jim speaks: Seriously, Heather Morris did Britney better than Britney ever did Britney.
Clip: Santana says, "Leave Britney alone!"
Jim: Sorry!
]

[To the tune of "... Baby One More Time"]
Oh, Stamos, Stamos,
How was I supposed to know
That you and "Glee" are besties?
Oh, Stamos, Stamos,
You're not singing "Kokomo."
No love for Uncle Jesse.

Mating with crazy eyes,
They're dating,
Schuester's fading,
Student's masturbating,
Oh, that's gross!

John Stamos has a dentist chair.
He gives "Glee" kids
So much sweet air.
When they go under,
They lose their mind.
Drugs are sublime!
Then it becomes Britney time!

[To the tune of "Everytime"]
Videos redone
Are so much fun,
But baby

Everytime "Glee" tributes
The plot falls by the wayside.
They just want you to buy
lots more soundtracks, baby.

"Glee" is structured like a porn.
They talk and then perform.
Scenes are shoehorned
Who needs story, baby?!

[Jim takes a hit of nitrous oxide, collapses.]

Karen Mok

Immaculately dressed, moving with grace, manners the definition of politeness, Hong Kong songstress Karen Mok meets us during a recent promotional tour in Shanghai for her 16th album, ?Baby.?

Unlike the over-finessed and mega-entouraged stars we often interview, Mok appears a woman completely comfortable with herself.

Though extremely elegant, she is no icy fashionista, warm almost instantly during our Q and A. Her skin may not be as radiant as it once was and her body perhaps not as perfect either, but it is her energy that most impresses.

While shooting promotional pictures for the album she's in town to showcase she seems more like a bubbly 20-something than a 40-year-old.

Britney Spears 'Glee' Episode Draws Record-Setting Ratings

Tribute episode brings in 13.3 million viewers.
By James Dinh

Madonna's "Glee" tribute episode might have been titled "The Power of Madonna," but it was the show's tribute to Britney Spears that reigned supreme. The broadcast, which featured cameos from the pop princess herself, drew 13.3 million viewers, leading the 8 p.m. hour and posting its best-ever rating among adults 18-49.

Tuesday night's episode, appropriately titled "Britney/Brittany," had a 5.8 rating and rose 4 percent from last week's season-two premiere. The feat made history for "Glee," as it becomes the first series since NBC's "Seinfeld" in 1993 to debut as the top series of the week and then spike in ratings the following week, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The episode, which highlighted Heather Morris' character Brittany S. Pearce, revolved around the McKinley High students' fight to perform Britney Spears numbers. Through anesthesia-induced sequences, the Gleeks tapped into their inner pop star to perform renditions of the singer's hits, including " ... Baby One More Time" and "Me Against the Music."

In addition to Spears' appearances on the hit Fox show, the singer took to Twitter during the West Coast premiere to thank fans for campaigning in support of the episode. "I loved it! Thank you guys SO much for making this happen!" she tweeted. The pop princess also gave props to the many song and video re-creations, including "I'm a Slave 4 U," saying, "Slave: Oh ... My ... God ...! Those little boys are SO cute! I know how hard it is to dance with that snake! Nice job."

Spears' manager, Adam Leber, also showed his appreciation for the episode, which spawned multiple trending topics on Twitter. "So glad you guys loved the GLEE episode! The Overwhelming worldwide response has been insane.3 of the top 10 worldwide trending topics.Sick! Big big big thank you to Ryan Murphy, the incredible cast and Brit's fans for making it happen...."

After such success, it wouldn't be surprising if the rumors of a second Spears-devoted episode came true, since "Britney/Brittany" only included hits from the first few years of the singer's career.

Usher Remembers Being A 'Pizza Face' On 'When I Was 17'

'I had really, really bad acne ' he admits in Saturday's episode.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Usher on "When I Was 17"
Photo: MTV News

He's known as one of the smoothest R&B sensations to grace the stage, but when Usher was 17, he grappled with a far less flattering image.

"I went through this phase where I had really, really bad acne," the singer admits on the latest episode of "When I Was 17," premiering Saturday at 11 a.m. Usher, who was 17 in 1995, reveals with a grin that his nickname was "Pizza Face."

"His acne was so horrible," recalled one of Usher's more blunt friends, Keith. "His face was so jacked up."

Music mogul and producer Jermaine Dupri remembered how the entertainer's spotty complexion led him to shy away from the spotlight.

"He didn't want to go out. He wanted to stay in," Dupri says. "He was a little ashamed of what was going on with his face."

The singer went to extreme, and ultimately unsuccessful, lengths to disguise his breakouts.

"As a dude, you're not gonna put makeup on your face, right?" Usher said. "I tried that, it didn't even work."

He may have experimented with cosmetics and spent a few more nights at home but the multiplatinum star didn't let his acne hold him back from wooing the ladies. "I was 17, so I would still try to talk to girls [and] get past it," Usher reasoned.

He even had some smooth lines to drop when he wanted to draw attention away from his skin. " 'Don't look at that, look at my eyes, baby. I'm trying to say something real serious to you right here,' " Usher recalled, reenacting his complexion-deflecting dating moves. "I know I have pizza face, I don't care."

In the end, his skin cleared up and the singer said it was just a matter of riding out a rite passage that many teens are forced to endure.

"This is something that all 17-year-olds have to deal with," Usher said. "You can't run away from it."

— this week featuring B.o.B, Usher and Ne-Yo — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV

'Glee' Britney Spears Episode Slammed By Parents Television Council

Group describes show as 'an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation, and school-sanctioned burlesque.'
By James Dinh

Photo: FOX

Last week's episode of "Glee" found Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) shouting, "It's a Britney Spears sex riot!" as she attempted to put a stop to the glee club's saucy rendition of "Toxic."

But she's not the only one who had an issue with the Spears takeover at William McKinley High School. The hit Fox show has come under fire as the Parents Television Council has deemed the "Britney/Brittany" episode the "Worst TV Show of the Week" due to the broadcast's "explicit sexual content."

A message posted on the organization's website decries the episode's "skimpy outfits" and "sultry grinds" during "I'm a Slave 4 U." And even though "Glee" castmembers show very little skin in the re-creation for the 2001 Madonna duet "Me Against the Music," the PTC said the interpretation included "plenty of girl-girl bumping and grinding."

According to the group, the tribute to the always-controversial Spears wasn't appropriate because the singer is far from a suitable role model.

"Glee earned its highest ratings ever with this Britney Spears tribute, drawing 13.3 million viewers," the message continued. "A scary thought considering that the mostly young teen/tween audience basically witnessed an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation, and school-sanctioned burlesque. But perhaps most troubling is the deification of a troubled pop star into a symbol of empowerment and self-esteem. Considering her stints in rehab, her very public breakdowns, and her questionable parenting skills, there is absolutely no way Spears should be considered a role model. The producers of the show can spare us the old song-and-dance about fallen celebs turning their lives around. What's next? Portraying Ike Turner as a reformed feminist?"

Spears knows controversy and criticism far too well. Since the beginning of her career, she's always raised eyebrows with everything from her sex-kitten public image to her sometimes-questionable parental judgment. While the pop star has played it relatively safe since her comeback, the singer did make headlines last year for her suggestive single "If U Seek Amy," the third offering from her album Circus.

Do you think the "Britney/Brittany" episode of "Glee" was inappropriate? Tell us in the comments below!

Dee Snider Relives Glory Days In 'Rock Of Ages'

Twisted Sister frontman joins cast of hit Broadway show: 'Imagine an actual Tyrannosaurus on the set of "Jurassic Park." '
By Kyle Anderson

Dee Snider
Photo: MTV News

During his mid-1980s peak, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider was perhaps the definitive hair-metal superstar. He had the pipes (a killer wail), the clothes (a combination of speed-metal denim and glam-rock gender-bending), the hair (a wild blonde mane) and the songs (the signature smashes "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock"). Unlike many of his contemporaries, he's not attempting to relive his past glories, even though they're still playing out in front of him six days a week.

Snider joined the cast of the hit Broadway show "Rock of Ages" about a month ago, and his limited run as bar owner Dennis Dupree has been both thrilling and bizarre.

"The entire situation is completely surreal," Snider explained to MTV News while sitting in his dressing room before a performance. "Imagine an actual Tyrannosaurus on the set of 'Jurassic Park.' They've got an actual '80s guy in a show about the '80s. I know the people who sing those songs were a little uncomfortable the first few nights."

The cast quickly got over the jitters of having a legend among them, and everybody quickly settled in. It was the culmination of a long journey for Snider, who has been coveting a slot onstage for a while.

"I would love to tell you that somebody knocked on the door and said, 'We want you!' " Snider admitted. "But the truth is: I was invited to the premiere of the off-Broadway production, where I saw my two songs in the show, and I turned to my wife and said, 'I want to do that. I could play Dennis Dupree.' So I let it be known, and it took two years to get asked out on that date."

As the perpetually stoned tavern owner Dupree, Snider delivers eight killer performances a week. Though two of his signature hits are included in the show, Snider doesn't sing during either "We're Not Gonna Take It" or "I Wanna Rock."

"Those songs are the two big moments of any Twisted Sister show, so it's weird that I'm not singing them," Snider explained. "I'm worried that when I go to perform those songs live in a concert setting, I'm just going to stand there and wait for my castmembers to sing them."

Though he's had plenty of experience onstage, the Broadway universe is new to Snider. He got some advice from contemporary and fellow Broadway star Sebastian Bach (of '80s shredders Skid Row), but there was one thing he had to learn on the fly: "The biggest difference between a concert situation and a theater situation is that you can't curse out the audience," Snider revealed. "I'm used to addressing situations. If something is going on in the house that I don't like at a concert, or if the audience is not energized or enthusiastic — or if they're particularly energized and enthusiastic — I will stop a song just to comment on what's going on. I quickly realized that was unacceptable on Broadway. I just have to stay in character and stay in the show."

Snider is open to doing more shows once his run in "Rock of Ages" is up, though he said the schedule would probably keep him to limited runs. Plus, he's not sure any other show would nail the poignancy "Rock of Ages" has for him.

"While it's a comedy, it's frighteningly accurate," Snider said of the show. "Especially when it comes to frontmen, and how the rest of the band regards them as complete a--holes. And I sit there and feel shame. I was a pompous ass. But I feel better now."

Have you seen Dee Snider's performance in "Rock of Ages"? Give us your review in the comments below.

Swizz Beatz, Diddy-Dirty Money Get Their 'Ass On The Floor'

Swizzy drops Monster Monday track days after previewing new Haute Living cuts on Ustream.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Following in the tradition of fellow production star Kanye West, Swizz Beatz has conjured up Monster Mondays to dole out free joints on the Web featuring some of his celebrity pals. His latest offering, "Ass on the Floor," corrals Diddy-Dirty Money into the mix for a slickly atmospheric dance-floor-filler.

Reinvigorating the rapid-fire drums made famous by Major Lazer's 2009 party must-have "Pon De Floor," Swizzy adds the spacey sheen of synth chords as the Dirty Money ladies croon about drowning their sorrows over a frustratingly volatile relationship.

"You're the love of my life/ But you hurt my heart twice/ Now I'm drunker than a motherf----- / Trying to find my way back to your heart you motherf-----," Kalenna sings.

Production duties aside, Swizzy plays hypeman, commanding the lovelorn souls to forget the drama and "get ya ass on the floor/ Them haters can't tell you nothing!"

The track's amped-up rhythm is somewhat at odds with the melancholy lyrics, as Diddy also laments potent heartbreak in his verse.

"That love's gon' get ya, motherf----- / Smoke weed, listening to Sade/ I left my pain in Paris/ Why can't you see sh-- my way?" Diddy spits.

The vibe of the song definitely stays on track with the naked emotion the Bad Boy mogul promised on the trio's long-delayed effort, Last Train to Paris.

"One of the things we're trying to represent is emotion," Diddy told MTV News last year. "Not being afraid to show emotion on record. A lot of records out right now — no disrespect to them, but they're all surface. It's about what people have or a dance. All our records are gonna be about love, feelings and emotion. Last Train to Paris is a love story and the most vulnerable album I've ever been involved in. It's raw emotion — you get a feeling, a vibe."

In addition to his Monster Mondays series, Swizzy has been staying busy in the studio and recently previewed some joints from his upcoming Haute Living album on Ustream. Tracks included a thumping midtempo banger featuring Chris Brown, and another song boasting the breathy vocals of his new wife Alicia Keys.

What do you think of Swizz Beatz and Dirty Money's "Ass on the Floor"? Let us know in the comments!

Jay-Z's 'Decoded' Takes #3 Spot On New York Times Best Sellers List

Hov's first book comes in behind George W. Bush's 'Decision Points' and Laura Hillenbrand's 'Unbroken.'
By Jayson Rodriguez

Jay-Z
Photo: John Parra/ Getty Images

Jay-Z might be able to best Elvis Presley when it comes to topping the album charts, but the Brooklyn MC wasn't able to muscle past former president George W. Bush on the book list.

The witty wordsmith-turned-author debuted at #3 on the New York Times Best Sellers list with his first book, "Decoded," a collection of the rapper's lyrics deconstructed with the help of co-author Dream Hampton.

The former prez's book "Decision Points" topped the Hardcover Nonfiction list for the second time in as many weeks. Laura Hillenbrand's "Unbroken" was the top debut, notching the #2 slot.

Jay-Z went on a heavy promotional campaign for "Decoded," making appearances on the "Late Show With David Letterman," "Charlie Rose" and "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart." He also partnered with Microsoft's Bing search engine for a portal that doubled as a scavenger hunt-like game where readers who decoded Jay-Z's lyrics would unearth scripts of his lyrics in the locations he referred to in song.

In the past, Jay-Z promised to deliver a memoir, co-authored by Hampton, titled "The Black Book." But the rapper subsequently revealed that the material was too personal and decided to pull the plug on that project. "Decoded" does get personal nonetheless, as evidenced during passages such as the one in which the "Empire State of Mind" star recalls the death of the Notorious B.I.G.

"I wanted people to have the proper context of rap, the generation, what we went through, these emotions behind these songs," Jay-Z told MTV News earlier this month. "A song like 'Lucifer,' it's really about the struggle and really about dealing with death and having that feeling. The evil is inside of you, not this mythical character with pitchforks and things like that. Dealing with a feeling of wanting revenge."

'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows' At The Box Office: How High Will It Go?

'This has a very real shot at hitting $1 billion worldwide,' says Boxoffice.com editor Phil Contrino.
By Eric Ditzian

Photo: Warner Bros.

After opening to $102.7 million in ticket sales the weekend before Thanksgiving 2005, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" swept through to the post-holiday weekend and picked up another $54.7 million — just a 47-percent drop from its opening numbers.

Five years later, in a return to a November release, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1" succeeded in notching the franchise's highest 10-day launch ever. But that hefty total (an estimated $220.4 million domestically) is less impressive considering the latest boy wizard flick is only the third-largest installment in terms of actual attendance, according to Box Office Mojo.

Still, it would be enormously impressive if "Deathly Hallows, Part 1" could sustain that 10-day head start and become the highest-grossing movie in the series. Unfortunately, many observers believe that just isn't going to happen.

"I don't think 'Deathly Hallows' will be the top-grossing 'Potter' film, or even the second biggest, despite the higher ticket prices," Gitesh Pandya of Box Office Guru said, noting the film's 61 percent drop from its opening weekend. "It's running 9 percent ahead of 'Goblet of Fire' over the same release span and its lead is shrinking."

At an $895 million worldwide total, "Goblet of Fire" stands as the fourth-highest-grossing film in the series, well behind "Sorcerer's Stone" with $974.7 (#8 on the all-time list). "Deathly Hallows, Part 1" should have little trouble eclipsing that "Goblet of Fire" sum, and some box-office experts even suggest it could zip past "Sorcerer's Stone" to become the first franchise installment to break the $1 billion mark.

"This has a very real shot at hitting $1 billion worldwide since it already has more than $600 million in the bank," Phil Contrino, editor of Boxoffice.com, said. "I could see it breaking into the top five all-time worldwide earners."

While opinions differ on where "Deathly Hallows, Part 1" will end up, one thing is certain: Warner Bros. is awfully happy about the film's performance. And when you add in home video and merchandise sales, the financial picture gets even rosier. It'll be rosier still come next year when "Deathly Hallows, Part 2" arrives — quite possibly with an inflated 3-D ticket price.

" 'Part 2' will certainly out-gross 'Part 1' and has a chance of becoming the top-grossing 'Potter' in the eight-film series," Pandya said. "New fans aren't joining the party, but the base is large enough to keep the series going."

Check out everything we've got on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1."

Spears' father, Jamie Spears, was also present in the judge's chambers during the progress meeting. He left the courtroom minutes after Britney, who wore a black dress and black ankle boots.

It was decided that Spears would remain under her conservatorship, according to TMZ. The judge took the stand to announce: "At this time, all orders will remain in full force and effect." The decision came after she met with Spears and her father individually. The judge did give the OK to approve "investment strategies" for Britney's trust; a petition had been filed regarding that matter.

While there seems to be no change in Spears' personal life, she has certainly been a force to be reckoned with since she released her 2008 album Circus. She's managed to once again top the charts, mount a successful tour and even try her hand at acting. This week alone she brought some star power to "Glee," which tackled her hit-filled catalog, including "Me Against the Music."

Much has been rumored about what Spears is working on as far as a follow-up to Circus. After it was reported that Spears might release new music sometime this year, her manager, Adam Leber, was quick to clear the air.

"No new music news right now....Wish people wouldn't mislead you guys with BS info," he wrote on Twitter in August. "Not cool! PS- The guys that ARE working on Brit's next album ARE NOT talking about it..."

Rihanna Bested By Susan Boyle, Jackie Evancho On Billboard 200

Two "Talent" show singers top the charts, while Rihanna's Loud debuts at #3.

Though it's an American holiday, Thanksgiving must be turning into Susan Boyle's favorite. After setting records last week with her second album, The Gift, former "Britain's Got Talent" runner-up Boyle will retain the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart next week thanks to sales of another 335,000 copies, and despite challenges from nine new competitors, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

Last week, Boyle became the first woman, and only other artist besides the Beatles and the Monkees, to land two straight #1 albums within a calendar year in both England and the U.S. She retains the crown as another reality singer from a Simon Cowell-produced show, 10-year-old "America's Got Talent" runner-up Jackie Evancho, comes in just behind with her debut EP, O Holy Night (#2, 239,000).

That means Rihanna has to settle for a #3 debut for her fifth album, Loud, which sold 207,000 copies. It marked her best U.S. chart sales debut to date, besting the #4 bow of last year's Rated R, which came in with sales of 181,000. She leads a parade of new names in the top 10 which also includes Josh Groban's Rick Rubin-produced Illuminations (#4, 191,000), Kid Rock's Rubin-produced Born Free (#5, 189,000), Rascal Flatts' Nothing Like This (#6, 165,000), Keith Urban's Get Closer (#7, 162,000), the "Glee" Christmas album (#8, 161,000) and Nelly's 5.0 (#10, 63,000).

The only other hold-over from last week's top 10 is Taylor Swift, whose Speak Now figures dropped by more than 30 percent to 146,000 as her first month of sales crossed the 1.7 million mark. Pink's greatest-hits collection, Greatest Hits So Far!, comes in at #14 (53,000), just beating out the Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's Darkness on the Edge of Town outtakes collection The Promise (#16, 47,000).

Season nine "American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze set a new record for "Idol" champs, just not the kind he probably wanted. His first major-label effort, Live It Up, is officially the poorest-selling debut from an "Idol" champ in history, notching a lowly #19 chart bow on anemic sales of 39,000. The title was previously held by season-eight winner Kris Allen, whose debut hit the charts in 2009 at #11 on sales of 80,000.

It was a very rough second week for Kid Cudi, whose Man on the Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager plummets nearly 80 percent to #21 on sales of 34,000, while Eminem's Recovery drops 12 spots to #23 while holding steady on sales at 34,000 and crossing the 3 million mark. It was also a big comedown for Cee Lo, as his solo album The Lady Killer nosedives 30 spots to #39 after sales shriveled by 40 percent to 25,000.

Despite selling 2 million digital tracks and 450,000 digital albums in their iTunes coming-out party, the Beatles have only one album in the top 50, with Abbey Road slipping in at #50 (19,000). Thirteen other digital albums chart in the lower regions of the top 200.

The Fab Four are having better luck on the iTunes album chart, where Abbey Road comes in at #6 and a special box set closes out the tally at #10. But it is all Rihanna on that chart, as Loud holds the #1 slot, followed by the "Glee" Christmas album, Rascal Flatts, A Day to Remember's What Separates Me From You, Urban, Swift, Groban and Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

iTunes doesn't release sales figures, but "Glee" rules the singles countdown thanks to guest Gwyneth Paltrow's cover of Cee Lo's "Forget You," followed by Ke$ha's "We R Who We R," Cee Lo's own sanitized version of his profane hit single, Katy Perry's "Firework," Pink's "Raise Your Glass" and the "Glee" cast's recording of "Singing in the Rain/Umbrella." The rest of the singles chart includes #7 song "What's My Name?" by Rihanna and Drake, the Black Eyed Peas' "The Time (Dirty Bit)," Rihanna's "Only Girl (In the World)" and Far East Movement's "Like a G6."

Things will get shuffled all over again next week with chart debuts from Kanye, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, My Chemical Romance, Ne-Yo, Jay-Z, Akon, Alan Jackson, Ke$ha and the "Burlesque" soundtrack.

Ashley Tisdale Brings an End to Holiday Break

Drawing an end to her holiday break, Ashley Tisdale was spotted making her way through LAX Airport in Los Angeles on Sunday (November 28).

The former "High School Musical" star was looking cute as she toted her D&G bag with pet pooch Maui through the security checkpoint and aboard an aircraft bound for Vancouver, Canada.

Tweeting to her many fans and followers ahead of the trip, Ashley wrote, "On my way to the airport, vancouver here I come!"

Meanwhile, fans can catch Tizzie in an all-new episode of "Hellcats" airing on The CW on Wednesday (December 1) at 9/8c.

Titled "Think Twice Before You Go," a synopsis via the show's website tells: "After the incident in the car, Dan (Matt Barr) issues Marti (Aly Michalka) an ultimatum ? either admit she has feelings for him or their friendship is over. Marti drags a depressed Savannah (Ashley Tisdale) to a BBQ to help lift her spirits. Savannah drinks a little too much and decides to flirt with the DJ, which puts her in a compromising position later that night. Britney Spears 'Glee' Episode Takes On '... Baby One More Time'

Lea Michele dons Brit's naughty schoolgirl look for a faithful cover of the 1998 hit.

It was the song that launched the career of one of the most beloved, albeit troubled, pop stars of the past decade. Its iconic video spawned a modern-day "Lolita" and earned the title of #1 first favorite video on "TRL." So, of course, Britney Spears' 1998 smash "... Baby One More Time" was an obvious choice for Tuesday night's episode of "Glee."

While general-anesthesia-induced hallucinations had another Brittany (Heather Morris) tackling "Me Against the Music" and "I'm a Slave 4 U," star Lea Michele took on the timelessly catchy "...Baby One More Time." As Michele mimicked Spears' naughty schoolgirl look, the instantly recognizable opening notes pounded on the piano (though the "Glee" version had a slight change of key). With her throaty "Oh bay-buh, bay-buh," Michele effortlessly channeled the song (surprisingly enough, she sounded downright restrained) that made the former "Mickey Mouse Club" member a superstar.

It's fitting that "Glee" paid homage to the song that is but a few weeks away from celebrating its 12th anniversary. (Go on and take a moment to absorb that information.) "... Baby One More Time," the first single of Spears' debut album of the same name, was released in the United States in late October 1998.

Of course, it could have all sounded very different if writer Max Martin had followed through with his original plan to have R&B heavyweights TLC sing the track. The song was also originally titled "Hit Me Baby One More Time" but was changed due to concerns about it being misinterpreted.

In Spears' capable 16-year-old pigtails, the single went on to sell over 9 million copies, garnered Spears her first Grammy nomination (Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, which she lost to Sarah McLachlan for "I Will Remember You") and reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The rest of the album featured other Spears hits, including "(You Drive Me) Crazy" and "Sometimes," but neither of those songs left quite the same impact.

Spears told Blender — which placed the track at the #9 spot on its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born" — that the song wasn't an easy undertaking for her at first (of course, neither was the immense fame that followed). Spears revealed, "I didn't do well at all the first day in the studio. I was just too nervous. So I went out that night and had some fun. The next day I was completely relaxed and nailed it. You gotta be relaxed singing '... Baby One More Time.' "

Spears looked more than at ease during awards show appearances that followed, namely the 1999 VMAs, in which the leather-clad pop princess took the stage alongside her tourmates 'NSYNC for a "... Baby One More Time"/ "Tearin' Up My Heart" showstopper.

Of course, long before the folks at "Glee" took "... Baby One More Time" out for a spin, countless other musicians had already had at it. From punk rock (Simple Plan) to acoustic (Travis), Spears' song has been refashioned (albeit, sometimes ironically) in many genres. Take, for instance, Bowling for Soup's cover of the ditty, which wound up on Bowling for Soup Goes to the Movies. And even Jamie Lee Curtis and Chad Michael Murray took a crack at it in the 2003 film "Freaky Friday."

'Glee' Britney Spears Episode Slammed By Parents Television Council

Group describes show as 'an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation, and school-sanctioned burlesque.'
By James Dinh

Emma Stone Is The Actress We're Most Thankful For In 2010

With winning turn in 'Easy A,' 'Spider-Man' casting and 'SNL' hosting gig, the 22-year-old has had quite a year.
By Eric Ditzian

As MTV News' Thankful Week draws to a close, we begin to cast our gaze away from the big screen and towards tables soon to be the scene of turkey-crazed feasts. But we have one last honor to bestow: the actress we're most thankful for in 2010.

The winner is none other than Emma Stone, a move that completes a nifty "Spider-Man" double win, as we also honored Andrew Garfield — who's stepping into the role of Peter Parker — as the actor we're most thankful for this year. Stone won the part of Gwen Stacy in October, capping a stellar year for the 22-year-old.

From the top-notch teenage rom-com "Easy A" to her "Saturday Night Live" hosting gig to the opportunity to shoot flicks opposite the likes of Steve Carell ("Crazy, Stupid, Love") and Justin Timberlake ("Friends With Benefits"), Stone was already having a great 2010. Then "Spider-Man" director Marc Webb came calling. Her life is never going to be the same — and she couldn't be more excited.

The always-energetic actress called up MTV News in the midst of "Spider-Man" preproduction to talk about what a surreal year it's been and how she's dealing with the pressures of taking on the iconic Marvel series.

MTV: Thanks for calling up to chat.

Emma Stone: Thank you for having me!

MTV: Well, you're going to be very excited in a second.

Stone: What is it? What's it going to be? You like how I'm excited at the mere mention that I'm going to be excited?

MTV: Uh-oh, I really have to come through now. Look out your window — there's a blimp with your face on it!

Stone: Oh my god, it's so beautiful, I'm looking right now! You wanna know what's really insane about that? I actually pulled back the curtain and looked at the sky.

MTV: I'm sorry to disappoint, but I can tell you that every year we honor various people we're thankful for, and this year you're the woman we're most thankful for.

Stone: Oh my god, shut up! Get out of here! I prepared a 10-minute speech, is that OK?

MTV: I'm afraid we don't have enough time. You know, the man we're most thankful for this year is your "Spider-Man" co-star Andrew Garfield.

Stone: Hey, I know that guy! We've met. He's the worst!

MTV: I won't tell him you said that. It has been quite a year for you. "Easy A" gets a great reaction, you're shooting movies with people like Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling, you host "Saturday Night Live," and then you land "Spider-Man." Does 2010 feel like a landmark year?

Stone: It feels kind of scary saying this because that means it's only downhill, but it's been the best year of my life. Not just with how lucky I've been work-wise, but with my family and friends. I'm totally terrified for 2011. I have such a disaster mentality, it's not even funny.

MTV: Which raises the question, are you ready for something as big as "Spider-Man"? Can you ever be ready for something like that?

Stone: The way I have to approach it, and I think Andrew would agree, is just like any other movie. You're going to put the same amount of focus into this that you would with anything. It just happens to be an exponentially bigger budget. So there's that. It'll probably feel different when we start to do press, but we won't have to deal with that for another year and a half. And there are harnesses I'm going to have to use in this one. That's the only difference: just the harnesses.

MTV: Seriously, though, it's been quite a year for you with onscreen love interests. The women in the office are jealous — Penn Badgley, Timberlake, Gosling, Garfield. You're a lucky woman ...

Stone: What can I say? You cannot compare them. They are so wonderful in their own ways. Again, it's been an amazing year.

MTV: Has there been one surreal point in particular that kind of encapsulates 2010 for you?

Stone: Hosting "Saturday Night Live." That's always been my ultimate dream. That moment before you come out those doors when Don Pardo says your name and you're standing there ... I had never let myself imagine what that would feel like. That moment when you walk through those doors was probably the most surreal moment, not just of this year, but ever.

MTV: So you guys are in rehearsals for "Spider-Man," right? What is that process like at this point?

Stone: Today I went and did hair tests, because I have blonde hair now since Gwen has blonde hair. My natural hair is blonde, so it's kind of nice. I looked in the mirror and said, "Oh my god, it's me again, it's been so long!" We're finalizing the visual stuff. And I think we'll start actually rehearsing, because we start shooting in two weeks. Andrew and I went and learned about science yesterday. Gwen really likes science, so we learned about science. I was homeschooled, so I never went to chemistry class in a traditional setting like Gwen is into. That was really beneficial.

MTV: There seemed to be so much competition for the role of Gwen Stacy. Do you ever think, "Why me?" What do you think won you the part?

Stone: I ask myself that question every day. I have no f---ing idea. It's the most amazing idea, I can't even tell you. I don't think I ever will figure out how it happened. It's been mind-blowing. I know things will eventually change, so I'm just trying to avoid thinking about it and just enjoy it while it's happening. Ugh, what am I even saying? Don't write any of that down!

Thanksgiving is a time for taking stock, expressing gratitude and, most importantly, overeating. We at MTV News have been gorging all year at movie theaters, so it's about time we looked back and gave thanks to our favorite actors and filmmakers of 2010. Enjoy exclusive interviews with our winners all week long.

Check out everything we've got on "Spider-Man."
